The Academy Awards may be over, but the Advocates for Human Rights want you to keep going to the movies — for at least a few more days anyway.
“Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” which chronicles the story of the Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their country, opened for a limited engagement in Minneapolis at the Lagoon Cinema last night.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, and again on Wednesday, March 4, The Advocates will moderate post-film question and answer sessions after the 7:10 p.m. showings to discuss the documentary and issues of women’s rights, truth and reconciliation in post-war societies.
The film has won several awards, including Best Documentary in the Tribeca Film Festival. It has also received praise from movie critics from Los Angeles to Boston, including an excellent review in The New York Times. The story is especially pertinent to Minnesota, which is home to the largest population of Liberians outside of West Africa.
It sounds like a very educational way to spend a Saturday night. Click here for more information.
